As the half entered its final minute, the game was tied at 52-52 with both teams looking to breakthrough. The teams would go back and forth for the remainder of the half, with the score going tied five times and the game going through two lead changes. That would start the Cardinal's biggest run so far, scoring eight straight points as they led 41-36 with 5:51 to play before half. The Cardinals stayed within two points of the Hilltoppers for the next three minutes and, with 7:39 to go before halftime, Korte tied the game for the first time since the opening minutes with a layup at 35-35. Four straight Hilltopper points made it 30-26, but Reasbeck was at it again with another three that made it 30-28 as the 10-minute mark of the first ticked away. Ryan Reasbeck came off the bench and hit his first three-pointer of the night to get the Cardinals over the 20-point mark, and he and Korte helped Wheeling to a 6-0 run that cut the Hilltopper lead to 26-25 at the 11:03 mark. West Liberty broke the run with a three-pointer, but Korte came back with a layup and the Cardinals were right back at it.
